Pope Joan and a Walk Down the Red Carpet

Pope_Joan_MoviePope Joan was recommended to me by my wonderful sister-in-law and fellow reader, Lori. I’m entirely grateful that she did because I really enjoyed reading Pope Joan. In response to my review of the book, Donna Woolfolk Cross told me about a promotion that she is doing for the movie premiere of Pope Joan.

Here are the nitty-gritty details from Donna Cross’ website:

Join me and my family as we walk the red carpet on the night of the Pope Joan movie premiere!

… Includes two tickets to the movie premiere, plus round trip airfare for two from any location in the continental United States or Canada, and one night hotel accommodation for you to share with your guest.

Simply buy a new, Three Rivers Press/Crown Publishing paperback edition of Pope Joan during the months of June or July 2009 and send me the original receipt. In August, I’ll pick randomly from the pile of receipts to select someone and their guest to join me at the U.S. movie premiere in the fall (exact date still to be determined).

Buy from Amazon.com for $8.99
So who wouldn’t like a free trip with a chance to go to a movie premiere?  Amazingly, none of the hundreds of stars that I know have never invited me to a premiere, so I guess I’m willing to opt for a free one, especially for a book that I loved.  The movie stars John Goodman, David Wenham, Iain Glen and Johanna von Ingelheim as Joan.  I readily admit that the only actor that I know is John Goodman; however, I love when movies made from books do not have huge stars in them.  To me, it adds a sense of credibility to the characters because I have too many preconceived ideas about the stars and, also, about the book.  With unknown actors and actresses, I only have to deal with my ideas about the book.

Since Pope Joan was borrowed from my wonderful sister-in-law, I’m in the market for a copy.  Buy your copy of Pope Joan to meet the author and enjoy an evening on the red carpet.

Thanks for spreading the word about my “Walk the Red Carpet” offer. My agent tells me that entries are coming in (and remember, each copy purchased earns a separate entry–so five copies sold=five separate entries). But hey, there’s not that many entries yet, so your odds of winning this drawing are a heck of a lot better than a lottery’s!

Love your comment about “unknown” actors, and I agree. Few people knew about Cate Blanchett until she starred in “Elizabeth” (and in fact, Johanna Wokalek, who plays Joan, reminds me of a young Cate Blanchett).

Anyone who wants more movie info should sign up for my once-a month Updates at popejoan.com.

    Thanks again for the mention!

No problem for mentioning the contest. I think this contest is a great idea for promoting your book and the movie. I, personally, watch many movies based on books and love to see other people interpretation of a novel.

Good luck with the contest :)
