Library Loot: Emotional Books for Toddlers
For me, it is very difficult to get back into my daily routine after a week of vacation and then a holiday weekend that follows soon after. So, I made a quick trip to the library inbetween the vacation and the Fourth of July weekend, which also happens to be my daughter’s third birthday. The only mandatory thing for the books that I picked up for my daughter is that they not be too long. My daughter’s patience isn’t all that long; so quick, to the point books work best for all involved in the reading process.
Magpie’s Independence Day Reading:
1. Sugar Snow
I loved, loved the Little House on the Prairie show. I never really got into the books; I always thought they were a bit too simplistic when I was younger. I completely realize that that is a very high and mighty thing to say; but I am no longer in denial about my geekdom, so there it is. However, I thought that I would give it a try for my daughter because she might like something that I don’t.
2. Grumpy Bird
This book screamed, “Magpie would love, love, love me!” My daughter is grumpiest kid in the morning. She wakes up crying and then gives me dirty looks until she is dressed. I now know what my mother had to contend with when I shouted at her in the morning, “I am not tired and I am not grumpy!”
3. Wish, Change, Friend
I’m not 100% sure why I got this book, except I thought that this book might have some deep meaning that I could somehow relay to my toddler. I’ve all ready read it and we are not going to read it again, because I just think that this book is kind of weird and I didn’t really get it until the very end.
4. The Magic Rabbit
I, mostly, got this book because the pictures in this book are beautiful. They are very bright and big. This book involves bunny rabbits and my kid loves the bunny rabbits.
5. Clever Chameleon
My daughter is just now getting into the “I Spy” books. We race to see who can find what stuff first. Being my competitive self, I feel the need to win with every opportunity. I’ve decided to preview this book before I give it to her so that I can find the chameleon first. Completely kidding…maybe…I let her win sometimes.
6. Joseph Had a Little Overcoat
Being my usual shallow self, I purely got this book for the pictures.
7. Sheep Blast Off!
Magpie and I have read Sheep in a Jeep and it is an all time favorite in our house. So if I see any of the sheep series available at the library, I snatch them up. I love the clever rhymes and funny sheep.
