Best Books To Inspire Exercise

Running a Marathon and reading a bookSometimes you know in your mind you need to be getting some exercise, be it running, swimming, biking or whatever your thing is. But sometimes you also need a bit of inspiration, something to motivate you into action. You may need to do a bit of shopping to get going, pick up a pair of cheap running shoes for women or a new bathing suit then all you need is some direction.

So here are some suggestions for a bit of reading the night before to get you inspired for the next day’s undertaking.

Food and Drink Inspiration

Runner’s World Cookbook

This is a handy little preparation aid that has 150 different recipes in it, which are ideal for fuelling up ready for a run, or other exercise. The menu options are also great for building energy but still losing weight. One example recipe is a banana-oat energy bar, which is ideal to take with you on a run to replenish reserves on the move.

Smoothies for Runners Book

In a similar vein, this book has 36 smoothie recipes focused entirely around the needs of runners. The aim of the book is to give you recipes which provide varied and tasty smoothies with minimal fuss and preparation but that give the maximum nutrition and energy.

Getting to Know Yourself

The Science of Running

This is a scientific approach to the subject of how to maximise your potential as an athlete and get the best performance for you. It takes approaches used by the best runners out there and shows you how you can apply them to your own abilities. It looks at what causes fatigue, how energy is produced and how the brain has an impact on what you can do.

Running with the Mind of Meditation

This is a route, which may not appeal to everyone, but if you enjoy the spiritual aspects of life, this is a book from a Tibetan lama and leader of a set of international meditation centres. His approach comes from a background of martial arts, horsemanship and running and discusses how he blended the physical and spiritual to achieve his goals.

Marathon: the Ultimate Guide

When you set yourself the aim of doing something like a marathon for the first time, it doesn’t hurt to get some expert planning advice on the case. This book, and previous versions, have been in print since 1993 and have constantly evolved as the sport had. However, the core elements have remained the same; learning about nutrition, prevention of injury and how to build your training schedule to achieve what you planned to do.

There are books now for every aspect of sports to help you accomplish your goals and set new ones, to get your body in the best possible condition and to avoid injuries. Not only that but the information you obtain from reading some of these books may actually inspire you to try something new and attempt something you have never tried before.
